Several years from now Nowa Huta will be home to thermal pools, a balneology institute, new shopping centres, sports fields, recreational facilities, roads, car parks and a logistics centre. The majority of investments revolves around ul. Igołomska – this will be the heart of the 'Nowa Huta of the Future'.
The cost of the project amounts to PLN 2 bn. The agreement on the realization of the initiative was signed on March 26th at the Kraków Unit of ArcelorMittal Poland by the mayor of Kraków Jacek Majchrowski and the marshal of Małopolskie voivodeship Marek Sowa.
The 'Nowa Huta of the Future' project is a strategic, or even revolutionary idea for the revival of eastern Kraków. It consists in the revitalization of the post-industrial areas covering 5.5 thousand hectares.
The area of the planned economic zone is mapped out in the south by the Vistula river, in the west by Bulwarowa and Klasztorna, in the north by the railway line and Kraków ring road, in the east – the border of Kraków district. Igołomska constitutes the heart of the area.
The project envisages the creation of Branice Logistics Centre and Science and Technology Park, the Centre of Large-Scale Cultural Events, the so-called Błonia 2.0, and the development of Przylasek Rusiecki – a recreational centre with additional services.
- We will be able to judge this project in a couple of years when it comes into existence, but I think we’re making a step in the right direction – commented Jacek Majchrowski, mayor of Kraków.
